Drone to keep watch on morchas, rallies during winter session

The drone cameras and mobile surveillance vehicles will keep a close watch on the morchas, agitation and big rallies taken out during winter session of Maharashtra Legislature in Nagpur. The drone cameras and mobile surveillance vehicles (MSV) will be procured under Nagpur Smart and Safe City Project.


Sources claimed that the drone cameras and MSV will be arriving before the commencement of winter session of Maharashtra Legislature in December 2017. In the first phase, around 20 drone cameras will be attached with the 10 MSVs to maintain law and order in the Orange City. The number of drones will be increased in a phase-wise manner.
Meanwhile, the City Operation Centre is fully geared up for the inauguration at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Surface Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari later this month. The programme may be organised on August 13 but so far Chief Minister Office (CMO) has not confirmed the function.


The City Operation Centre (COC) has been developed on 5,000 sq ft area at 7th floor of the Administrative Building of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. A Video Wall of 24 cubes of 50 inches will be the main attraction of the centre. The LED screens will display the vehicular movement to maintain smart traffic in the city.

The COC will have 24 computers and 25 operators will manage the show in three shifts of 8 hours each. The centre will be operational 24x7 to keep a watch on any untoward incident. A command and control centre will be constructed in the premises of Superintendent of Police near Providence Girls School in Civil Lines area. L&T will construct a state-of-the-art building in the premises. The centre will be equipped with modern technology. The police officials will keep watch from the centre.

The centre will be ready at the end of this year, sources added.
It may be mentioned that Larsen and Tubro (L&T) is implementing ambitious Smart City Project in Nagpur to develop it as Information Technology backbone. A smart road stretch of 5.6 kms has been developed from Japanese Garden to Orange City Hospital Square. The company is laying 1,200 kms of optical fibre network to create smart backbone of the city to keep watch on traffic signal jumpers.

The L& T is also creating 136 City Wi-Fi hotspots at key locations and 10 prominent junctions of this stretch.
Till now, the L&T has completed installation of LED screen on 81 buses. They have to install LED screen in 156 buses on this smart street route. Every bus will be having two line LED display screens with GPS device.

The buses will also have public announcement system. The company has created 23 smart bus stops with four line LED display system showing the arrival and departure of the buses and bus route. The company has to create 135 smart bus stops on this stretch.


The intelligent traffic junctions will be developed on 10 squares on this street. The company has prepared 7 junctions while 3 junctions will be ready by month end. The L&T has to create Wi-Fi spots at entire stretch by installing equipments at 790 locations. The hot spots have been created at 639 spots and remaining 151 hot spots will be created in couple of days.
