Two chain-snatchers held

The Bairagarh police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two bike-borne miscreants involved in robbery of gold chain worth Rs 60,000 from a 68-year-old woman near GS Bhawan Convent School, Bairagarh, on Saturday; gold chain and motorbike used in the burglary were recovered by police.

Police said that the victim Shantama Keshvan, a resident of KGS Bhawan near GS Convent School, who is a retired health employee was robbed of her gold chain by the accused posing self as delivery boy and escaped the spot on Saturday and during the investigation police nabbed two accused involved in the robbery. The two accused were identified as Nandu alias Anil Khaade (19) and Chetan Dhanwate (20).

One of the accused Nandu is a son of the domestic help who works for the victim. He was the master mind behind the robbery as he used to visit the victim’s house for the past one month frequently during which he planned the robbery.

Initially, Nandu used to take the victim for her works and later he tried to persuade her to visit Salkanpur temple during which she could be easily robbed but the victim refused and later the accused committed robbery on Saturday. The accused confessed that Chetan went to the house in the evening on Saturday when the power was off and asked for goods delivered by Sameer and to answer when the victim came Chetan snatched the chain and escaped. During investigation victim told the police that Anil was aware of the goods and later when he was quizzed he confessed the crime.

The other accused Chetan is friend of the main accused and works at a private factory in Mandideep. The accused escaped on motorbike bearing registration number MP04-VM-4728 which was recovered from their possession. Based on the complaint after the preliminary investigation the police have registered a case under Section 392 of the IPC and started further investigation.
