Staff Reporter,

ANTI-CORRUPTION Bureau (ACB) officers on Tuesday caught Head Constable Motiram Dashrath Shinde, attached to MIDC Police Station, red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from an accused in an abduction case for chargesheeting him and sending ‘B’ final summary for his acquittal in the matter.

Shinde (55), who was working Police Inspector (II) Raul’s writer, demanded Rs 25,000 from the complainant against whom an offence under Section 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against him at MIDC Police Station (Crime No 2128/16) last year. Shinde told him that the police would file ‘B’ Summary and not file a chargesheet against him if he gives Rs 25,000. After negotiation, Shinde told him that he should bring Rs 10,000 as a first installment on Tuesday. The accused, who is a resident of Mohadi, district Bhandara, lodged a complaint at ACB office. The bureau officers laid a trap after verifying the complaint and caught Shinde red-handed after he accepted the bribe amount.

Bureau officers took Shinde into custody and registered an offence under Sections 7, 13(1)(d), read with Section 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against him at MIDC Police Station. Possibility of involvement of a police officer of the same police station in the matter cannot be ruled out.
The trap was laid by DySP Dinkar Sawarkar, PI Yogeshwar Pardhi and others under the supervision of SP (ACB) P R Patil.
