NIT razes 14 encroachments in Khamla area

Enforcement Department team of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), on Saturday, razed 14 encroachments of houses in Ganesh Housing Co-operative Society in Mouza Khamla. The local residents opposed the action of NIT, which created tension for a while. Later, the residents agreed to remove the encroachments from their houses.


The layout was under encroachment since 1992. NIT had cleared 44 plots under Chief Minister’s formula in 1992, on 4,235 sq mtr plot. However, eight plot-holders had encroached upon the open plot and also demarcated road. Adv Anand Parchure filed a contempt petition on behalf of Ganesh Society against NIT Chairman in the High Court. Recently, the court directed NIT to raze the encroachments till September 11.


As per the directions of the High Court, NIT team issued notices to the encroachers. On Saturday, two bulldozers were pressed into action to remove encroachments till 3.30 pm. The team razed illegal constructions of Gangadhar Chachane, Vasantrao Kolhe, Narayan Kumre, Pundlik Chachane, Yamuna Ambarte, Nirmal Verma, Krishnarao Potpite, Baburao Shende, Manju Kale, Mukundrao Nimbarte, and others.


The staff of Rana Pratap Nagar police station was deployed for the security of the NIT team. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Smartna Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajratan Bansod; Pramod Dhankar, NIT Executive Engineer (West); Pankaj Ambhorkar, Divisional Engineer; and Vasant Kanhere, Enforcement Officer, were present during the encroachment removal drive.
