Staff Reporter,

Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia on Sunday said that Congress would go alone in assembly elections-2018.
The Congress would take up the issues of corruption, complete ban on sale of liquor, paddy bonus and others.

He further said that the party would win a thumping majority and form government in the state. The goal will be to win all 90 seats for which separate strategy would be chalked out. Talking to media persons here, Rajya Sabha Member from Uttar Pradesh Punia said that “people of Chhattisgarh are fed up with fourteen years of BJP rule and very likely the BJP will have to face the anti incumbency though they would use all the resources under then to retain power for a fourth-time while Congress will make all efforts to wrest power in the state in next assembly elections,”.

Congress would give representation to all caste in ticket distribution for assembly elections. The party would give assembly ticket to winning candidates. This time, Congress is confident to form government in Chhattisgarh, he added.
BJP has done nothing in the last 14 years in the state. Corruption has reached its peak in Chhattisgarh under BJP rule. The ministers of the BJP government are facing serious charges of corruption. If BJP goes in assembly elections with tainted faces, Congress will be going with clean faces in the assembly elections, the Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge pointed.

Replying to a query on what’s his role in the upcoming assembly elections, the Rajya Sabha Member said that his duty is to unite party leaders and establish coordination between the state leadership and the high command, so that the party could smoothly function in the state.

When asked whether Congress’ committed a political blunder by making Ajit Jogi as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh neglecting Congress heavyweight Vidya Charan Shukla’, Punia said, “the leadership is selected according to the prevailing situation. The situation at that time warranted for Ajit Jogi hence the party high command with the due consent of the elected legislative members nominated Jogi. Now this is history and the history will judge whether the decision was wrong or right,” the Congress leader Punia observed.

Responding to another query on faction in the party on the issue of tribal leadership, the Rajya Sabha Member said that Congress party always gives priority to the tribal leadership and so the party had declared Ajit Jogi as the Chief Minister, as he claimed himself a tribal leader. Still today, the tribal people recall the name of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for the good work done for them. Congress always works for the welfare of poor and downtrodden.

The party will continue its struggle for food for all, MGNREGA, education and other issues for the poor people. The party is raising public issues and the declaration of bonus by BJP government was the result of Congress party’s consistent struggle on the issue of farmers, he said.

The Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge said that the BJP had failed to fulfill its promises declared in the election manifesto. Punia asked the BJP government why paddy bonus is being given to only 13 lakh farmers of the state. He said that the BJP government had not kept their promise, they even tried to befool the farmers by delaying the announcement of bonus and when the election was nearing they are trying to win over the farmers but all these years, the farmers were not a priority for the BJP and many debt ridden farmers in the state committed suicide.
