Over 350 participate with enthusiasm in Bhopal Cyclothon

Sunday morning witnessed participation of fitness lovers in cycle rally. With full zeal, the participants were seen enjoying amiable weather conditions while cycle riding. The rally was flagged off from TT Nagar Stadium. Basant Pratap Singh, Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, was the chief guest. DIG Bhopal Santosh Kumar Singh flagged off the rally. He also participated in the rally and was declared as one of the winners. Other dignitaries present as special guests in the event include CEO Chandramauli Shukla, CEO of Smart City Project, MP Alok Sanjar, ADGP Sushobhan Banerjee, etc.


Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Deepti Singh, Convener of the event said that around 350 plus people participated in the event with full enthusiasm. Medals were given to the winners and also, as a token of appreciation, certificates were given to the participants. The event started at TT Nagar Stadium in three categories of 21 km, 11km and 5 km.


Participants of all age groups participated for social cause. Participants from Indore, Delhi, including State capital, participated in the event. This is the first time when a Cyclothon was conducted on such a large scale. “The Prathvi” (Manikarnika Education and Social Welfare Development Society) organised “Bhopal Cyclothon 2017”.


Deepti Singh also said that the interest of women in this event is clearly visible this time and very much appreciated also. As per the organisers, the purpose of this campaign is take society to a better direction and to raise funds for healthy and clean lifestyle, education and helping cancer patients. The health benefits of regular cycling include increased cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength, etc.

With cycle tracks developed as a smart city venture in city now, efforts are also given to encourage more women to use cycle and make it as a part of daily routine. “The Prathvi” is an NGO working in the field of social welfare for the past many years through various activities like medical treatment and health check-up camps, medicine distribution and blood donation camps.
