Dumna Airport devpt work to start from Nov

The Airport Authority of India has released time bound programme for extension and development of Dumna Airport. Member Planning of the Authority, Sudhir Reheja informed that all needed formalities have been completed and the development works would start from November 2017.


It may be noted that Member of Parliament, Rakesh Singh got approved Rs 419 crore for development of the Airport. With the money, the Authority had to construct Terminal building, ATC Tower, Apron Technical Block, Fire Station, extension of Runway etc. But due to some technical problems the extension work could not be started.


Expressing displeasure over the delay, MP Singh had sought explanation from the Authority, which, on Monday informed Singh that it has issued a time bound programme for extension and development of the Airport.


Member Planning of the Authority, Sudhir Reheja informed Singh said present length of the runway is 1988 metre which would be increased and be made so that big flights could be landed at the airport. Apart from that the number of aprons are very less which would also be increased. Likewise, taxi way, ISO rikshaw, BMY and other work would also be done at the airport. He informed Singh that the development work would start from November 2017.


It may be noted that earlier the Airport terminal building had the capacity of 75 passengers. It was later increased to 150 and now its capacity has been increased to 250 passengers. Likewise, new Terminal building, ATC Tower, Apron Technical Block, Fire Station, extension of Runway would also be done.


Raheja further informed that Project Management Consultant (PMP) would be appointed by the end of September for designing of development works. He informed that the Airport Authority of India has acquired land from the State Government. The land would be secured by boundary wall.

He said the Authority has appointed a consultancy for taking needed environmental clearances for extension of the airport. Term of Reference (REF) has already been issued. The Environment Ministry would issue all clearances by December 2017, he added. Member of Parliament, Rakesh Singh said soon Dumna airport would be developed as the most important airport of the State.
