“I have sacrificed the days of my young age by serving the interest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but now I have decided to dedicate my knowledge and experience of my old age to Congress,” said former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s niece and Congress leader Karuna Shukla on Wednesday. She stated this while addressing a training programme organised by Congress at Queen’s Club here.

Karuna openly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders in the programme. “I would be happy to see BJP’s crashing defeat in coming Assembly elections in the state. For it, I will give every moment of my remaining life to strengthen Congress in the state,” said 66-year-old Karuna.

She urged the party workers to dedicate every minute of to Congress till the Assembly, so that the BJP can be dethroned. The Congress leader said that the coming one year is very crucial for Chhattisgarh as well as the Congress. Shukla, who ended her 32-year-long association with the BJP in 2014, questioned, “How could BJP say, Congress has done nothing in last 60 years. Congress has done a lot for the nation. Congress workers should publicise the achievement of the party through social media”.

After joining Congress in 2014, Karuna contested Lok Sabha election from Bilaspur on Congress ticket, however, she lost to BJP candidate Lakhanlal Sahu. Former BJP MP from Janjgir Karuna, while contesting on BJP ticket, had also lost the 2009 elections from Korba to Congress candidate Charan Das Mahant of Congress.
