Aganwadi centre in dilapidated condition; Notice issued to Betul Collector

In District Multai recent rains have worsened Aganwadi centre building. It was reported that from last six months leakage problem is being faced in the centre at Gram Sandiya and with rains back in the region the dilapidated condition of the building has become threat to the children. Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission has written to Betul Collector Aganwadi Bhavan and has also requested to conduct a probe over quality of construction of Aganwadi building.

Earlier in a bid to check the status of Anganwadi centres Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) probe team inspected Anganwadi centres in districts in State. Accordingly certain recommendations were chalked out in order to improvise the conditions of Aganwadi centers.

It was found that, there is no specific timings for Aganwadi centres and no punctuality is being followed. There is no proper toilet facility. There is no adequate space to accommodate children. The meals and breakfast are not being served as per pre decided menu. There was no community hall in some centres. From last six years there is no proper place to accommodate children or organise any social cultural activities. From last one month mid-day meal was not being served which is increasing the problem of the centre .

On the other hand researchers and other workers also told their problems to maintain the cleanliness in the centre. They said that in spite of serving at Anganwadi centre for last 18 to 20 years no properly salary is being given to personnel who operate centres. There is no register and stationery being provided to the centers which is also creating problem for the management.

The anganwadi workers in many areas complained that no proper attention is being given for their requirements by the authorities which is effecting the services. Accordingly the recommendations were set after detail discussions with the concerned authorities and main emphasis is given to make a strategic approach by systematic process.
