Sonowal opens Assam-Rajasthan cultural exchange programme

ASSAM Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday inaugurated a cultural exchange programme Central Government’s ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ (One India, strong India) initiative at the Rajasthan Guest House, here. Assam will showcase the culture, traditions and practices of the State to people of Rajasthan and vice versa under the programme.

Sonowal noted that the two States have shared very strong cultural, economic and social relations down the ages and this bond will be further enhanced with such exchanges. An Assamese food festival is being held here as part of the programme. Also items related to traditional Assamese lifestyle including mask culture of Majuli and handloom and handicraft products have been displayed. The initiative is a harbinger of stronger ties and improved bonding between the two states, Sonowal said. Sonowal said the programme will enhance understanding and bonding between the two States which dates back to several centuries.

‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ programme has been able to generate goodwill amongst people across the country and as a result of which states are helping each other at the time of their distress. PM Narendra Modi gave a major impetus to the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat approach and made a clarion call to the Chief Ministers of all States to provide assistance to flood-hit states of the country during the CMs’ meet recently.

Following the Prime Minister’s appeal, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand Governments contributed Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 5 crore respectively to the Relief Fund of the Chief Minister of Assam. In the programme, Government of Rajasthan was represented by Minister of State, Law & Justice and Corporate Affairs P P Chaudhary, Minister of State, Food & Civil Supplies and Industry & Commerce CR Chaudhary, MP Narayan Panchariya and Additional Secretary Madhukar Gupta.
