CMHO unaware of Drugs from OST centre being sold in market

The costly drugs purchased by the Government at OST (Opioid Substitution Therapy ) Centre to distribute free to the patients are sold to the chemists but District Health authorities say he does not know about it. The drugs of OST centre sold at market come under the Narcotics Act and serious action against the guilty should be taken soon. OST centre for in media for the last three months due to one or another reason. When Umesh Kumar Singh (who is now Joint Controller Foods & Drugs Administration) was as Project Director in Madhya Pradesh State AIDS Control Society had terminated services of two employees from OST centre in Sehore on basis of complaints.

According to information, Dr Prashant Kumar had written two page complaint to Principal Secretary, health to initiate investigation in issue of selling Government drugs of OST centre to market. In his detailed complaint Dr Prashant Kumar said, it was not new the drugs from OST centre were being sold for the last some months and it might be in knowledge of other officers including district health authorities Chief Medical & Health Officer (CMHO). But no action has yet been taken against any officer responsible for it.

Senior health officer said, several complaints about working system of Sehore hospital and OST centre were made to the Divisional Joint Director but all complaints are said to be filed. It is the reason why no action has yet been taken against any officer in Sehore.  

Complaint stated that a three member team of Madhya Pradesh State AIDS Control Society reached to Sehore to probe issue of selling Government purchased drugs of OST centre in market. They found irregularities in drugs store but later the issue seemed to be hushed up. When contacted Dr R K Gupta, Chief Medical & Health Officer said he did not know about selling OST centre’s Government purchased drugs in market. I will get the issue probed in coming Monday and take action against the guilty, he said.
