Mining service agreement inked for Rowghat Iron Ore Mines

The agreement for engagement of MDO (Mines Developer and Operator) for development and operation of 14 Million Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) Iron Ore mines at Rowghat – Chhattisgarh was signed on 25/09/2017 at ED (Projects) Conference Hall Between SAIL/Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and M/s ACB Mining Private limited, New Delhi in the presence of CEO, BSP.

M/s ACB Mining Private limited, New Delhi, MDO shall develop Rowghat iron ore mines on behalf of SAIL/Bhilai Steel Plant for a period of 30 years and commercial
production from mines shall begin from the year 2022.Rowghat Iron Ore Project has been crucial and important for BSP in view of Iron Ore security for the plant, as ore in existing mines would be exhausted in another 4 to 5 years period.

Rowghat Project was perceived 25 years back as future source for iron ore for BSP. However, the progress was hampered for some time for want of clearances from department of environment and forests. Thereafter, the issues were again taken-up and all clearances were obtained by 2009.
BSP expansion projects shall start its operations to its envisaged capacity in a year and iron ore requirement would increase from the present level of 9 MTPA to 12 MTPA.

Developmental activities and creating infrastructure logistics such as building Rail Line network from Dalli-Rajhara to Rowghat, 95 km stretch is being implemented at the cost of Rs 1,142 crore with the help of Railways and RVNL. Construction of Rail line is progressing well and it would be completed by 2022 for transporting iron ore produced at Rowghat mines by MDO.

Other, support services such as power and water projects are being implemented through CSPTCL and WRD of State also progressing well and these projects would be completed in 2 to 3 year period. Signing of mining service agreement between SAIL/BSP and M/s ACB Mining Private limited, New Delhi was signed by Dilip Bhargava, GM I/c (Mines and Rowghat) and Rudra Sen Sindhu, M/s ACB Mining Private limited, New Delhi respectively in the presence of Senior BSP officers AK Mathur, ED (Projects), BP Naik, ED (F&A), AK Mishra GM (Mines Rowghat), Himadri Mukerjee GM (CET) and other senior officers from Project, Rowghat, CET and M/s. ACB Mining Private limited.
