Ex-employee, SAF jawan held in ATM loot case

Ex-employee of the company and his friend posted as SAF jawan had together colluded to steal cash from the ATM and as main accused, had worked with the company he was aware of the cash refill password used in the ATM, said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Santosh Kumar Singh while speaking with the mediapersons on Wednesday. The stolen cash was recovered by police from the accused.

DIG Santosh Singh said that the main accused Surjeet Singh alias Vinay Tiwari (23), son of Munna Lal Pawaiya, who used to work with the cash filling Writer Safeguard Pvt. Ltd and worked till June 23, 2017. His work was to refill ATM with cash and planned the stealing of cash with his friend Pan Singh Gautam (22), son of Harvilas Singh.

Both the accused are residents of Bhind in Gwalior. Surjeet alias Vinay and Pan Singh are good friends and used to live in a rented house at 11 number stop in Habibganj. Pan Singh Gautam, who had stolen cash from the bank’s ATM, is posted as jawan in SAF 14 Battalion and presently posted in the security at Raj Bhavan.

After the cash was stolen, complainant Vault Manager of Writers Safe Guard Company Pvt. Ltd Rajesh Prasad lodged a complaint with Piplani police and in his complaint, he stated that in the intervening night of September 22 and 23, ICICI Bank’s ATM machine located at Sonagiri was targeted and Rs 13,15,800 were stolen from the ATM.

A case under Section 457 and 380 of the IPC was registered by the police and nabbed the accused. A special joint team of Crime Branch and Piplani police started to investigate the case and nabbed the accused during the investigation and with the help of footages of CCTV cameras installed in the ATM booth of the bank, as the incident was captured in the CCTV camera.
During the investigation, police found negligence on the part of the company as the password used by the main accused was not changed even after he left job around three months ago.
