Harshita, Uma, Ashish in Indian team for Asian C’ship

Madhya Pradesh players from Water Sports Academy are selected for Asian Sailing Championship. IODA Asian Sailing Championship is being organised from September 29 to October 6 at Hong Kong. Five-member team will represent Indian at the championship. Out of five, three members have been selected from MP Water Sports Academy. Players from 20 different countries will participate in the championship. The players from academy which got selected includes Harshita Tomar, Uma Chauhan and Ashish Vishwakarma.

They had 12 days special training received training at national training camp at Chennai. These players are getting training under Arjun Awardee J L Yadav. Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Upendra Jain congratulated the selected players and expressed his best wishes. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia also expressed her best wishes and encouraged players to bring laurels to the nation by winning at international events.

It has to be mentioned that Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia is taking interest for encouraging sports activities in the state consequently the players are getting benefit of first slalom course of the country at Maheshwar and the players of the state are bringing name and fame participating in national and international events. Last year with the beginning of national slalom championship at river Narmada, Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh became the first state in the entire country to launch a permanent slalom centre. The main objective of the centre was to impart training to the players so that they can show their best performances at national and international level.

After stamping authority in kayaking and canoeing, another water sports game slalom was also given much focused attention. Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy players clinched a silver medal and a bronze medal in Asian Canoe Slalom Championship held in Thailand from February 24 to 26 this year and brought laurels for the state as well as for the country. Canoe Slalom is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river in the fastest time.
