Staff Reporter,

A middle-aged man, said to be a close relative of former state minister Laxmikant Sharma accused in Vyapam scam committed suicide by hanging self to death at residence of former BJP MLA Girja Shankar Sharma located in Phase-2 of Riviera Township in Kamla Nagar area, police said on Wednesday.

According to SHO of Kamla Nagar, Ashish Bhattacharya, the deceased has been identified as Vibhore Dubey, 30, son of Om Prakash Dubey, who hails from Sironj in Vidisha district and here, he was living at the residence of former BJP MLA Girja Shankar Sharma located at B-51 in Phase-2 of Riviera Township for the past couple of years.

After completing his graduation from journalism, he worked as faculty on ad hoc basis in Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, while Laxmikant Sharma was cabinet minister, but after sometime, he left job.

Here, the deceased lived in the house of former MLA alone with a servant Gopesh Kurmi. According to police, Kurmi said that he had gone to serve food to the deceased in the afternoon and later, came out in the garden. In the evening, at around 06:30 pm, when he came to call him to the first floor, he found the door locked from inside. Kurmi further stated that he went out to purchase some household items in the new market and later, returned at around 07:30 pm and again knocked the door.

When repeated knocks did not evoke any response from inside, he went to call one of the acquaintances Sunil Sharma, a resident of Kotra Sultanabad, who reached the spot after getting information and he also knocked the door and suspecting untoward incident, he informed police late in the night. Meanwhile, the neighbors had also gathered at the spot.

Police on reaching the spot broke open the door to find him hanging from a ceiling fan. On being confirmed that he is dead, his body was taken to mortuary of Hamidia Hospital for postmortem. His family members, including father, arrived at the hospital from Vidisha. Meanwhile, a tweet of Vyapam whistle blower Anand Rai in which he alleged that the deceased had connection in the multi layer scam has left the rumor mills churning. Police, on the other hand, is clueless as what drove him to towards the extreme step as he has not left any suicide note neither he discussed any problem with anyone.

Investigation Officer ASI RB Suryavanshi said that in the preliminary investigation, it came to fore that he used to remain depressed and in the state of depression, he might have taken extreme step. Deceased’s mobile phone has been seized by the police, but it was locked therefore nothing concrete could come out in the probe of police till now.
