Business Bureau,

THE Vidarbha Economic Council (VED) will be organising a logistic conference on the topic ‘Nagpur - An emerging logistic centre’ on October 7, at Hotel Le Meridien from 10 am to 6 pm. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping will be the chief guest. This was revealed by Devendra Parekh, President of VED while talking to the media on Wednesday.

The reason for organising the conference is that Nagpur has been unable to grow as a logistics centre despite it being the centre of country and having excellent rail, road and air connectivity due to close interstate boundaries.
“However the time for Nagpur has arrived as Goods and Services Tax (GST) has removed state boundaries and created a one nation market for seamless movement of goods,” he said.

About 8 to 10 companies have shown interest in creating warehousing facilities and each company is interested in buying plots of 100 acres in and around the peripherals of the city. Suitable policy initiatives by the State Government could convert the interest into actual investments that would make the logistic hub a reality, he said.

Shivkumar Rao, Vice-President of VED said that the conference attempts to talk about the logistics scenario in the city and opportunities and solutions to problems by experts in the field and support intervention by the State Government. VED has invited investors and all stakeholders at collating thoughts to make the city as an ideal logistics hub that would attract huge investments from logistic service providers, create employment opportunities and bring down logistics cost for industries.
