Steel city all set to celebrate Dussehra with zeal, verve

As steel city gears up for Dussehra, artisans from the suburbs are busy giving final touches to the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran, that will finally be reduced to ashes to symbolise the triumph of good over evil.


Artists at various places in the city are busy preparing the huge effigies, not for the sake of earning profit, but only to spread awareness about the oldest epic on earth, Ramayana. On the other hand various Samiti’s have also geared up for the preparations and have finalised the guests and other aspects of the celebration. This year the biggest Ravana is about 80 feet of height that will be installed at Shahi Dussehra, Bhilai Hotel while 50-50 feet long effigies of Meghanath and Kumbhakaran will also be burnt at there.


The other prominent places where Vijayadashmi celebration will be conducted are Shanti Nagar, where 45 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt; Sector-7 Ground, where 75 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt along with 50-50 feet long effigies of Meghanath and Kumbhakaran; Baikunthadham, where 40 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt; Khursipar, where 65 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt; Nehru Nagar, where 60 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt and Shanti Nagar, where 50 feet long effigy of Ravana will be burnt.


Artist, Vijay Prasad of Labhandi who is preparing the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran at Sector-7 ground said that around 30-35 thousand is spend for preparing one effigy that included bamboo, new clothes and decoration. Besides this they charge extra amount for fireworks. Few years back the cost was half but with the rising inflation the cost has been doubled.


President of Yuva Khel and Sanskritik Mandal, Sector-7, Channa Keshavlu informed that this is the 24th year of celebration and the celebration will commence at 6.30 pm and the centre of attraction will be the 75 feet effigy of Ravana along with him the effigies of Meghnath and Kumbhkaran are 50 feet in height. “To make the occasion entertaining and momentous, we have invited the renowned comedian and Tv Personality, Raju Shrivatava, to spellbound the audience”, added Channa Keshavlu.


Likewise, Shahi Dussehra Mahila Utsava Samiti will also celebrate Vijayadashmi that will begin at around 8.00 pm where 80 feet in height effigy of Ravana will be reduced to ashes.


Office bearers of the Samiti, informed that the impressive Shahi Rath prepared for Lord Rama, Raas Garba along with EDM Sound and world class fireworks will be the centre of attraction for peoples this years.
