GOVERNMENT school students will no longer be deprived of participating in sports competitions. District Education Department will soon organise inter-school sports competitions to ensure compulsory participation of Government school teams in their selective events and talented players will be listed to provide better training and other resources. District Education Officer N K Chouksey, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that it is a fact that most of the Government schools overlooked participation of their teams in sports competitions. The situation proved a major setback in nurturing potential of players of Government schools. District Education Department will organise inter-school and inter-cluster sports competitions in December 2017.

Principals of Government schools will be given directions to ensure participation of their school teams in these competitions. DEO N K Chouksey added that inter-school sports competitions will be organised separately from SGFI competitions.

Outstanding players in inter-school competitions will be selected to represent cluster teams in inter-cluster competitions. Participation of a good number of players from 350 Government schools in athletics, kho kho, kabaddi, volleyball, rope skipping, chess and other competitions will definitely encourage school players towards sports and develop a healthy sporting atmosphere in the district. Chouksey said that declining participation of players in school competitions is a matter of serious concern for desired promotion of children in sports and other games.

Competitions will start for overall personality development of students and inculcate sportsman spirit. Most of the children studying in around 350 Government schools are deprived of nurturing their potential due to absence of their participation in inter-school sports competitions. The initiative will definitely prove fruitful in promotion of sports in Government schools and listing of hidden sports talents in the district.
