Inter-State gang illegally selling liquor busted

AN inter-State gang involved in illegal sale of liquor was busted with arrest of four persons and seizure of foreign liquor in the outskirts Gatapar village under Gatapar police limits.


As per police sources, the accused have been identified as Ashok Kumar Singh (35) hailing from Bhilai, Mahendra Vera, a resident of Mohara in Rajnandgaon, Devashish Rai (22), resident of Durg and Luv Kumar Pandey (25), resident of Tulsi Nagar in Rajnandgaon. Observing that illegal sale of liquor had been on rise for the past few months, the district police had deployed informers at various place and directed to keep them eye on anti-social elements who are involved in such criminal activities.


Recently, Gatapar police from one of their reliable sources came to know that some unidentified people, who belong to an inter-state gang which is involve in illegal sale of liquor, were carrying stock of liquor in a car and using Gatapar road as transit route to take their assignment.


Based on the tip-off, police reached the indicated location and cordoned-off the area. Meanwhile, officials spotted a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), (CG-05) F-0929.


As police tried to stop the vehicle, the drive tried to break the barricades but failed and police managed to arrest him. However, the other person who was sitting beside driver managed his escape. Few minutes later, police stopped a brand new Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) for checking and seized five cartons of foreign made liquor while searching the vehicle.
Police have booked the four people Ashok Kumar, Mahendra Kumar, Devashish and Love Pandey under relevant sections of Excise Act and further investigating the matter.
