Four arrested for killing spotted deer, cooking its meat

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Forest Department arrested four poachers who allegedly killed a spotted deer. The four miscreants were nabbed by forest team while cooking the meat of the deer. In the raid, the team also recovered horn, remaining meat and the sharp-edged weapon used by the poachers to kill the animal.

According to information by Deputy Ranger, forest range Ramrama, V R Uikey, on September 4, an adult spotted deer weighing around 40 kilogram was spotted near railway crossing close to village Sawangi. The four poachers allegedly released dogs who attacked the deer forcing it to move out from the area. The four poachers then reached the spot and trapped the animal. Later the deer was cut into and the same was being cooked while the other remains of the dead animal were discarded in the village outskirts.

Information about the crime by the four miscreants was obtained by informer pressed into service by the Forest Department. The team then raided the suspects’ home and caught them in possession of cooked meat of the dead animal. The four accused have been identified as Kamlesh Chainsingh (30), resident of village Sawangi, Umeed Roopchandra Devhey (40), resident Tumditola, Narendra Shankar Sendrey (26) and Ramesh Jittar Khumbhrey (45), resident from the same village. The sharp-edged weapon along with horn of the animal has been seized from the house of the poachers. The four poachers have been booked under relevant section of wild life act. The poachers were produced before the court who awarded imprisonment.

The team included DC Wasnik, VR Uikey, Ravindra Kumar Ladkar, Sunil Marawi, Arvind Bhawrey, Krishna Kumar Deshmukh, Shailendra Jagjiwan, Govind Wasnik and others.
