Immersion of Ganesh idols commences in State Capital

Immersion of small and mid-sized idols installed at houses and by various Ganeshotsava Samitis began on Monday in water bodies available in their respective localities or nearby localities. Besides, they were allowed to immerse idols Mahadeo Ghat amidst watchful eyes of police personnel. Divers were also pressed into service to avoid untoward incidents.

The city roads leading to various water bodies and Mahadeo Ghat witnessed festive fervour with revellers dancing to the music while escorting idols in the procession for immersion. Though the Raipur Police had ensured diverted routes and at some places even barred the movement of heavy vehicles to ensure smooth flow of procession, motorists as well as pedestrians as they were left stranded in long jams.
The idols of Lord Ganesh were immersed at Mahadeo Ghat, Avanti Vihar pond and other water bodies of the city.

Hundreds of idols of Lord Ganesha were placed at different places in the State Capital. On Monday, the devotees offered prayers and visited pandals to pay obeisance to the deity. Several devotees immersed the idols with performing rituals near the ponds, rivers and other water bodies. The devotees threw gulal and chanted songs during the celebrations.

However, the announces of dates for the annual immersion procession (Saalana Ganesh Jhanki), is yet to be done, the glimpses of today’s immersion somehow gave a picture that the spirit for Ganeshotsava is usually up this year, despite the odds, including the usual reason of inflation. 

In the meantime, all the major Ganesh Pandals which installed massive size idols of the ‘Vighnaharta’ continues to witness the rush of devotees, particularly women and children. As part of the extended security arrangements, some Ganesh Utsav also installed CCTV cameras following on the instruction of local police. The immersion of the Lord Ganesha will continue on Tuesday.
