Staff Reporter,

A special General Body Meeting (GBM) convened specifically on single agenda of Open Defecation Free (ODF) mission came to an abrupt and unusual end when the opposition Corporators walked out of the House after offering their support to the agenda without any deliberation on Monday.
Auguries of the special GBM was not looking very promising right from the beginning and kept slipping away further by every hour that was consumed in cacophony of unexpected demonstration by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporators.
Be it an Independent Corporator such as Mrityunjai Dubey or leader of opposition Suryakant Rathore, all of opposition appeared to stand united to question the veracity, requirement and legality of the special GBM.

Suryakant Rathore blasted Mayor Pramod Dubey for holding such unnecessary meeting for just a single issue. Rather, there should have been a normal GBM with all important issues concerning the under-privileged people of the City, many of whom are wandering for pensions under social welfare schemes.

Neither the Speaker’s persuasion nor the appeal of Mayor had an effect in calming down the strident sloganeering. Opposition even went as far as to demand resignation from Mayor while blaming him for surrendering to the demands of RMC Commissioner.

Speaker even adjourned the House for over an hour when the BJP Corporators surrounded him in a demonstration. Thereafter, Mayor Pramod Dubey also requested them to let the discussion begin and he would heed their demands later on, but they were not ready to give any space.

For nearly 3 hours it continued and just when Speaker Praful Vishwakarma began reading out the agenda, dejected Suryakant Rathore walked out with his Corporators after giving a green signal to agenda of the day. Independent Corporators also joined the bandwagon. The agenda was cleared in their absence.
