Tight security for Lord Ganesh idol immersion

City police have prepared tight scrutiny and surveillance system to ensure order during the Ganesh immersion procession in city. More than 2,200 policemen including senior officers will
keep vigil during the immersion at nine lakes in the city. The cops take help of 100 CCTV cameras which are installed at the immersion points.

Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP), Dr Shivajirao Bodkhe informed that strict vigil would be maintained on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Total 1,069 Sarvajanik Mandals have installed Ganesh idols this year and immersion of the idols will be arranged in three days. 34 Ganesh idols were immersed on Monday, 649 will be immersed on Tuesday, 369 on Wednesday while 17 on Thursday.

The police and NMC have made three immersion points at Futala lake where 760 Sarvajanik Ganesh idols will come for immersion. Other immersion points are Sakkardara lake, Sonegaon lake, Koradi lake, Mahadeo Ghat at Kamptee, Binaki Mangalwari lake, Kalamna lake and Kalmna mining area.

Maximum police force will be deployed at the Futala lake where maximum Ganesh procession will come for immersion. Control Room will also be set at Futala lake, said Joint CP Bodkhe. All approaching roads towards Futala lake will be closed for the vehicular traffic during immersion and traffic coming from Wadi area will be diverted through Ambazari lake area. NMC have made arrangement of divers at all the immersion spots for emergency response. Additional Commissioner of Police Shyam Dighaokar, DCP (SB) Nilesh Bharne, DCP Traffic Ravindrasingh Pardeshi were present in the press conference.

No music system after midnight
The police personnel have asked all Ganesh mandals to start procession early so that immersion would be done early. The Ganesh Pandal will have permission for musical systems including traditional instrument till midnight.

Damini Squad, Crime Branch in plain clothes
In order to keep tab on the hooligans, members of Damini squad and Crime Branch will be deployed at the immersion points in plain clothes and immediately nab hulligans. More than 100 men of Crime Branch will keep watch at every immersion point.

QRT and RCP on toes
Quick Response Teams and Riot Control Police (RCP) have been asked to remain alert for quick response to prevent untoward incident. Joint CP Bodkhe said that the special teams would remain present in their vehicle to reach any spot immediately.
