Working of GSTN should be error-free: Steel traders

Traders and manufacturers associated with iron, steel and hardware businesses recently urged the Union Government to ensure error-free working of Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) portal that has seen disruption on couple of occasions recently.

While interacting with the two renowned chartered accountants in a seminar organized by the Steel and Hardware Chamber of Vidarbha (SHCV) on Sunday, the traders and manufacturers said that the network failure has caused inconvenience to many tax payers and professions.
The members unanimously reiterated their demand that there should be no retrospective amendment in procedural rules/laws which affect the taxpayers adversely and also appealed to the Union and State governments to maintain ease of doing business under GST.

Apart from this, the traders and manufacturers also said that the Government should streamline the system before implementing e-way bill.
“The Government has recently notified the e-way bill but yet to announce its implementation date. The new system may further put burden on the portal and pose hurdle in filing returns. We want the Government to take corrective steps well in advance,” said Rajesh Lakhotia, President of the Chamber.

The chamber organized the session on ‘GST Provisions and its Compliances’ addressing the practical issues relevant to iron, steel and hardware businesses and accounting precautions the concern traders and manufactures should take under the new tax regime.

On the occasion, CA Lalit Loya and CA Ritesh Mehta, key speakers explained in lucid language the details of return filing, data matching process, input tax credit and its appropriation, tax under reverse charge mechanism and its ITC, transitional issues, composite supply, accounting precautions and E-waybill rules. These topics were deliberated in depth during the six-hour long session. Thereafter in question and answer session, both the speakers resolved the queries of the participants.

At the outset Lakhotia welcomed the guest speakers, members and addressed the gathering. Harish Bhattad, Vice-President felicitated the speakers with flower bouquet while Sanjay K Agrawal Secretary of the Chamber conducted the proceedings. Dinesh Agrawal, Manoj Khemani and others were among the prominent persons present on the occasion.

Executive Members Sarvshree Rajinder Singh Kalsi, Suryakant Agrawal, Neeraj Agrawal, Manish Jejani, Anand Rander, Priyank Diwanka and members in large number with their representatives attended the event.
