More patients putting faith in AIIMS doctors, treatment

Every day avg 700 patients queue up for token in AIIMS Total patients in AIIMS’ OPD go beyond 1600 patients


These days, the faith and confidence in treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) is on the rise among patients is. About two years ago, there were about 600 patients in country’s premier medical institute’s Out Patient Department (OPD), now it has gone up more than 1600. Of them about 500 are said to be follow up patients while 700 are new patients, local and those coming from different cities of the State. Those patients who reach at about 4 am for token in AIIMS, the hospital administration is mulling over to get a shade constructed for such patients.


Sources said that the popularity of AIIMS among patients has reduced load in other government hospitals of the city as JP, BMHRC and Hamidia Hospital. Some medical experts from BMHRC had recently joined the AIIMS finding a good opportunity to serve patients with latest equipment.


Many patients and their family members were seen in AIIMS premises as early as about 5.30 am to get token for getting them examined from experts. Efforts are to examine and treat all those patients taken token and it is the reason the AIIMS doctors sit in OPD sometimes even after 1 pm.


Some patients said that the treatment of AIIMS’ doctors is good and that why they came here. When contacted, Dr Rajesh Malik, Superintendent, All India Institute of Medical Science, said from this week the OPD in some other faculties have also been started as in Oncology, Nephrology and Urology. We will do surgery also, the patients of diseases related to these faculties might come for treatment.


He said that there is average 16,00 patients OPD, including follow up and new patients, daily. It shows the patients’ faith to AIIMS has increased. Our efforts are to start some more departments and serve maximum patients, he said.
