Staff Reporter,

Central Railway’s General Manager D K Sharma asked officials at Nagpur Division that there should be no compromise on safety and track maintenance. Yes trains speed need to increase but safety should not be ignored as he reiterated the vision of Central Government, especially in aftermath of recent derailment that brought bad name to Indian Railways. Sharma who was on day long inspection visit to Division heaped praise on division, appreciating the work being carried out here.

Sharma was addressing Branch Officers after inspection of the Ghat section of Nagpur Division on Wednesday. He also inspected the Coaching Depot at Nagpur Railway Station and gave directions for certain improvements to division officials. Sharma lowered himself into the pit and saw the general conditions and checked the installation therein. Also he visited the pump house and washing pits in the Depot.

Earlier in the day, General Manager conducted window trailing inspection and also did foot plating in the Ghat section form Ghoradongri to Betul. He was particularly interested in netting done by division in Vindhyachal mounting to prevent landslides and falling of loose boulders onto the track. This was in view of current landslide in Mumbai Division's ghat section that resulted in derailment of Duranto Express.

The netting done to mountains has been very effective as since then no cases of boulders falling onto tracks and endangering safety of trains passing through the section has been heard.

General Manager was accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Brijesh Kumar Gupta and other Branch Officers who briefed Sharma about the steps taken in recent past. In fact, Sharma had also headed the Nagpur Division in past and hence knew much of its topography. He also inspected the Overhead Equipment (OHE).
At the meeting the division officials gave a power point presentation as to status of loading and future plans.
