Seat vacant due to sudden demise of Nilesh Kumbhare

State Election Commission (SEC) of Maharashtra has announced by election of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for a vacant seat of prabhag 35 (A) on October 11. The result will be declared on October 12. The by-elections will be held on two seats in Kolhapur, one seat in Greater Mumbai and one seat in Pune Municipal Corporation.


It may be mentioned that young BJP corporator Nilesh Kumbahre was passed away due to brief illness in April 2017. He was elected from reserve seat of Prabhag 35 (A) in the general elections held in February 2017.
State Election Commissioner Jageshwar Saharia declared the programme of bye elections of local body on Wednesday. The Municipal Commissioner will announce the election programme on September 16. The nomination papers will be accepted between September 16 and September 23.

The nomination papers will be scrutinized on September 25. The final list of eligible candidates will be announced on same day. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be September 27. The election symbol will be distributed on September 28. The election will be held on October 11.
Sources claimed that BJP may give chance to a family member of Late Nilesh Kumbhare to contest the election. All four members were elected from BJP in this prabhag under the leadership of former Standing Committee Chairman Avinash Thakre.


Congress, Nationalist Congress Party may join hands for the election while Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) may also enter in to fray in this ward.
BJP had won 108 seats in the election while Congress has 29, Shiv Sena has two and BSP has 10 members. After sudden demise of Kumbhare, BJP has 107 members in the house of 151 members. BJP leaders said, the parliamentary panel of the BJP will finalise the candidate of the election.
