Staff Reporter,

Superintendent of Police Jabalpur Shashikant Shukla, sensing gravity of the incident occurred involving firing by police personnel, has issued suspension orders of 6 cops of Crime Branch allegedly responsible for having fired at suspect carrying cache of arms in Bolero vehicle on the intervening night of Wednesday-Thursday at 1.30 am near Cherital falling under Kotwali police station. The injured, having sustained bullet injury, undergoing treatment, in his statement given to police, has claimed that the cops from Crime Branch attempted fake encounter.

According to information, the injured named Abhay Grewal was in Bolero vehicle on Thursday around 1.30 am. Cops from Crime Branch, acting on the information about the suspicious man, reached Cherital area and allegedly fired at the youth. The bullet perforated his shoulder, while the cops of Crime Branch left the spot without taking stock post firing. The injured remained desolate on the spot and was later rushed to a private hospital.

The firing incident caused sensation after the injured was admitted in the hospital. Kotwali police was informed, who reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the injured. In view of statement recorded, cops registered a case under Section 307,34 of IPC and SC/ST Act against cops of Crime Branch. He named constable Sadiq and three others.

On the other hand, Crime Branch said, they received information about illegal transportation of arms being done in a Bolero vehicle. Having obtained the information, cops reached at the site and found group of miscreants in the vehicle absorbed in consuming liquor late night. The miscreants, having seen the cops arriving on the spot, indulged in open firing on which cops in their defense were forced to resort to firing in which Abhay sustained bullet injury on his shoulder.

When contacted, SP Jabalpur Shashikant Shukla said we have taken gravity of the development that has taken place. On the basis of statement of the injured undergoing treatment, a case under Section 307, 34 of IPC and SC/ST Act has been framed against cops named by the injured. Six cops have been issued suspension order besides magisterial probe has been ordered in the incident. The final outcome would be known only after the investigations arrive to their logical end. SP Rajesh Tiwari has been assigned with the responsibility to initiate investigations in the case. The entire episode is highly fishy in view of statement of the injured and the action of Crime Branch.

The claims made by the injured that Crime Branch indulged in fake encounter against him has made the police administration to issue suspension order of 6 cops. However, the claims of Crime Branch, in view of credentials of the injured, who happens to be a suspect with tarnished track record, has made the situation highly complex. As whether the Crime Branch exaggerated in their task and the statements of the injured when subjected to cross examination would end the puzzle in the incident.
