Staff Reporter,

Under Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme farmers can get the insurance done for their crop of wheat and gram from September 15. The insurance of debtor farmers will be done by related bank and the non debtors can give applications in the nearest bank. To compensate for the loss of farmers caused due to natural disaster Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme has been started. Under this scheme farmers need to give fewer premiums. Farmers will give only one and a half percent of rabi crop premium and 2 percent of kharif crop premium rate to insurance companies. In case of horticultural crops farmers have to give 5 percent premium. Rest of the premium will be given equally by centre and state governments. This scheme has been implemented from 2016. Provision has been made to submit 25 percent of the principal insurance amount directly in the farmer’s account in case the sowing of the crop cannot be done due to bad weather. The pictures of crop harvest estimation taken from smart phone will be uploaded on server under new scheme. This way the insurance company will be able to get the figures of crop harvesting as soon as possible. This way the time consumed in making the payment of claims will also be reduced. Through use of remote sensing and drone technologies help will be provided to reduce the number of crop harvesting usage. For detailed information farmer call centre can be contacted toll free.
