Provide relief to scheduled caste people, says NCSC VC L Murugan

National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Vice Chairman L Murugan reviewed the aid given to victim families under Scheduled Caste Prevention of Atrocities Act during the meeting of departmental officials on Thursday. Principal Secretary of Scheduled Caste Welfare, Ashish Upadhyay, Commissioner of Scheduled Caste Welfare, Deepali Rastogi, ADG, Police, Scheduled caste, SL Thaosen, District Collector, Dr Sudam Khade, SSP, Santosh Kumar Singh, Joint Commissioner, ML Tyagi were present at the meeting along with other officials.

Murugan while addressing the present officials said that to provide protection to people of scheduled caste category Scheduled caste Prevention of atrocities Act has been formed. Under this there is provision of giving financial help to the victim family and to take action against the culprit. He said that as per provisions of the act victim family should be provided aid within the stipulated time and statutory action should be taken against the culprits.

It was told at the meeting that state government id convening various schemes for the welfare of scheduled caste category. For students of SC category 571 junior hostels, 1164 senior hostels, 189 hostels for college level students and 20 Gyanoday residential schools are being convened in the state.
ADG, Police, Scheduled Caste, SL Thaosen said that in all the 51 districts of the state Scheduled caste Welfare police stations are established in which DSP rank officer has been appointed as in charge. Special courts have also been established in various districts of the state for cases related to Scheduled Caste Atrocities Act.
