Seven coaches of Jabalpur-bound Shaktipunj Express derailed near Obera railway station in Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh

IN yet another train accident in Uttar Pradesh, seven coaches of Jabalpur-bound Shaktipunj Express derailed near Obera railway station in Sonbhadra district on Thursday. No causalities were reported.


The train, which was coming from Howrah, went off the track around 6:25 AM. After the accident, seven damaged bogies were removed and the train left for its destination. The bogies damaged were four AC coaches, two general coaches and one sleeper coach. Following the accident, traffic on Chopan-Karni rail route was disrupted. Many trains have been cancelled, including the Triveni Express, Chopan-Patna, Singrauli-Benaras and Shaktinagar-Chopal.


On learning about the incident, the district administration and rail officers rushed to the spot.
DRM Manoj Krishan Akhori informed that this accident occurred due to fracture in rail track and further investigation was on. Information centres have been set up at Jabalpur, Singrauli, Gadwa, Chopan, Dhanbad and Howrah. The repairing of damaged rail track has been started and work is expected to be completed in 24 hours.


This is the third rail accident in last one month in UP. On August 20, 14 coaches of the high-speed Kalinga-Utkal Puri Haridwar Express had derailed in Muzaffarnagar, killing at least 23 people and leaving scores injured.
The train was coming from Puri in Odisha and going to Haridwar in Uttarakhand.


Three days later, nine coaches of the Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express had derailed in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh after it collided with a dumper, which had strayed on to the tracks, leaving around 100 passengers injured.
