Voices of discontentment arose from the party rank and file during the review meeting of district-level active party workers and office-bearers at Kanker. The meeting was chaired by BJP National Joint General Secretary (Organisation) Saudan Singh who was touring Bastar region along with State President Dharamlal Kaushik is on a three day tour of Bastar region.

When the Assembly elections are due in the end of 2018, strong currents of factionalism is emerging from Bastar region, where the contest on 12 Assembly segments will be toughest for both the ruling BJP and main opposition Congress. The party which manages to win most of these 12 seats will have maximum chances of forming government. In order to ensure its fourth term, the BJP will have to ensure win in most of these seats. But the in-fighting has become a bone of contention for the party think-tank.

During the review meeting chaired by BJP National Joint General Secretary (Organisation) Saudan Singh at Kanker on the other day, a woman office-bearer in Kanker Jila panchayat and a prominent BJP woman leader from Kanker district, complained during the meeting that the party’s situation may turn miserable in the district and also alleged leveled charges of harassment against a senior party office-bearer from the district. The meeting which was held at Jagdalpur, was attended by 68 out of 70 party office-bearers from Kanker. Sources informed that the woman leader had also leveled allegations of being neglected. Despite, she being party as well as district panchayat office-bearer, she’s not called for meetings.

Sources informed that later both the BJP National Joint General Secretary (Organisation) Saudan Singh and State President Dharamlal Kaushik had jointly held solitary discussions with the woman leader who had complained of harassment and sought complete details. When the matter was taken up with BJP Kanker District President Haldhar Sahu, he told mediapersons that the meeting was centered on organisational issues. He also stated that no party worker or office-bearer had made any personal remarks or complaint against anyone. Despite repeated efforts to get in touch with the woman office-bearer, it could not be done as her phone was switched-off.

Sources further informed that during the meeting several party office-bearers had also complained against MP Vikram Usendi. It was stated that Usendi spends most of his time either in New Delhi or Raipur. He seldom comes to Kanker and attends meetings here despite programmes being pre-fixed. The party workers also informed that sand mafias are very active in the district and there is no control over them. There is strong resentment among people in this direction.

Due to the frequent plying of dumpers carrying sand, the roads are also being damaged. It is worth mentioning here that barring Antagarh, all other Assembly segments are with Congress. The party office-bearers also complained about the high-handedness of administrative officials also. According to a senior party official who was along with Saudan Singh and Dharamlal Kaushik, said that the meeting in Bastar region had been fruitful and every office-bearer expressed their opinion. Suggestions and complaints received during review meeting will be considered.
