Cop Ratnesh Pawar, who pointed his gun towards former Union Minister and Congress MP Kamal Nath at Chhindwara air strip some time back, is suffering from some kind of mental illness. Pawar was taking treatment of disease from Bengaluru and Nagpur-based hospitals. Pawar had hidden his disease from Police Department and used to go to hospitals for treatment by citing wrong reasons. This thing has come to the fore in investigation done by Chhindwara police so far. Now departmental enquiry will be done against accused cop Ratnesh Pawar.

Talking to “The Hitavada”, Chhindwara Police SP Gaurav Tiwari told that accused cop was suffering from mental related illness for the last four years. He kept Police Department in dark about his disease and used to visit Bengaluru and Nagpur-based hospitals for treatment by telling wrong reasons such as back pain. Last time, he had gone on two-month leave. The documents seized from his house indicate that he was availing mental related treatment since 2013. To ascertain the authenticity of documents, police teams were sent to Bengaluru and Nagpur and they have returned after investigating the given task.

Police said, accused cop had availed treatment from Bengaluru-based National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosurgery (NIMHANS). “We have given chargesheet to accused cop and he is yet to give his reply. In future course, departmental enquiry will be conducted against him,” said Chhindwara SP Gaurav Tiwari. Police sources in Chhindwara district said that accused cop was admitted to Jabalpur based medical college after being arrested in connection with the incident. After getting discharged from hospital, he is staying at the house of a close relative.

Notably, it was in middle of December month that Kamal Nath was on tour of his constituency Chhindwara. When he was about to board a plane at Chhindwara air strip, a cop Ratnesh Pawar, who was deployed for his security, pointed gun towards him but he was immediately over powered by other policemen present at air strip. Later, a case was registered in connection with the incident.
