Temporary, permanent structures razed

The Anti-Encroachment Department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Tuesday conducted drive in many areas of the city and removed temporary as well as permanent structures. They razed permanent structures like platforms, slabs, ramps which got erected on drains and nullah. Apart from that they also removed kiosks, makeshift shops. The JMC employees also unlocked for public the toilets at petrol pumps.
Senior officials of the department informed that they conducted drive in Madan Mahal area and removed a number of permanent structures. Officials said the anti-encroachment squad conducted the drive on people’s complaint. But, when the squad reached the area the complainant and locality people started argument.

But, giving no ears to the argument, the squad conducted drive and removed a number of platforms, ramps and slabs which got constructed on drains and nullah. Later the squad also dismantled other permanent structures and also removed kiosks and make shift shops.

Senior officials said people had encroached the area by placing shops along the main road. They said the anti-encroachment department had recently conducted drive and removed vendors from the area. But, only after a day of the drive, the vendors had reoccupied the area and placed temporary shops. They said temporary shops were hindering traffic movement. Hence, taking strict action against the illegal act, the anti-encroachment squad conducted drive and removed all vendors from the area. It may be noted that the anti-encroachment department along with building department of the JMC is carrying out drives unchecked. The anti-encroachment squad is razing illegal permanent structures and also removing kiosks, makeshift shops, handcarts form main roads.
