“India, the great country as a whole is confidently marching to achieve the position of ‘Vishwa Guru’. The entire world is now admiring the ancient wisdom of this great nation. This is the reason, 193 countries across the world celebrated June 21, 2015 as Vishwa Yoga Diwas. The first speech of Swami Vivekanand at world parliament of religions in Chicago on September 11, 1893 has to be considered as the foundation of India’s position as ‘Vishwa Guru’,” said Akhil Bharatiya Organising Secretary of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Mukul Kanitkar. Kanitkar was delivering a lecture on ‘Swami Vivekanand’ organised as part of Khasdar Sanskrutik Mahotsav-2018 at Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education, Krida Square, Hanuman Nagar on Friday.

Kanitkar said, India has performed a role as a world teacher because of its long standing culture, ancient wisdom and sound education system. Swami Vivekanand was the first ambassador of Bharat who preached the greatness of this country in world parliament of religions, he added. Kanitkar took a brief review of life and work of Swami Vivekananda. He portrayed the entire life of Swamiji right from his childhood as Narendra Dutta. Kanitkar also pointedout how the sanskars play an important role in the life of a person. Narendra Dutta became Swami Vivekananda because he had pursued a dream to strengthen his country. He fulfilled the dream with dedication, determination and a strong faith in Ramkrishna Paramhansa, his Guru. Swami Vivekananda was a courageous warrior monk in real sense, he added.

Kanitkar expressed a concern over present education system which did not enable a person to stand on his own feet, nor did it teach him self confidence and self respect. Vivekananda once said, “Education is not the amount of information that we put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested, all your life. We must have life building, man making, character making assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education than any man who has got by heart a whole library.”

Kanitkar stated that there is a need to revive education system as per the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda who felt education should be man-making, life giving and character-building. To him education was an assimilation of noble ideas. Earlier, MP Ajay Sancheti, MLC Nago Ganar, MLC Anil Sole, Mahanagar Sanghachalak Rajesh Loya, Kailash Chute, Jaiprakash Gupta, Dr Upendra Kothekar, Girish Gandhi lit the traditional lamp. Sarjerao Galpat appeared before audience in the attire of Swami Vivekanand. Bal Kulkarni conducted the proceedings.
