‘National workshops are beneficial as they help attain great heights’

“FOR development of the city, state and the nation, national workshops are beneficial as they strengthen research activities which in turn helps the nation achieve great heights,” said Mayor Dr Swati Godbole while inaugurating two-day national seminar sponsored by United Board for Christian Higher Education on ‘Advanced Research Instrumentation Techniques in Materials Science’ at St Aloyius College (Autonomous) on Friday. Dr Godbole was present as chief guest, Bishop Gerald Almeida from Catholic Diocese of Jabalpur was the Presiding Officer, Professor JM Kellar, former Vice-Chancellor, Rani Durgavati University and Professor R Bajpai from Rani Durgavati University were present as special guests.

Dr R Nagrajan and Professor V Gaeshan were resource persons. Apart from them, Principal Dr G Vazhan Arasu, Vice-Principal, Ben Anton Rose, Dr Kallol Das and Convenor Dr Deepti S Deshpande, Department of Physics and Electronics were also present. After formal inauguration and welcome of guests, Dr Deshpande briefed about the workshop’s objectives. Principal Dr Arasu said that immense opportunities are available which need to be grabbed and optimum use should be ensured for progress of youth of the country. Professor Keller, former Vice-Chancellor, RDU, appreciated the workshop’s topic and said that discovery of new material will help attain advanced technology for future.

In his address, Professor Bajpai expressed that to detect a particular material right procedure and thoroughness is essential for better results. Exposure through national workshop will benefit many research scholars and aspiring scientists. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Nisha Pandey. Dr Hephzibah John and Enosh Philip compered the workshop. On first day of the seminar, two technical sessions and one lab session were conducted. In the first and second technical sessions, Professor Kellar, Dr Ganeshan, Akhilesh Pandey, Dr Das and Professor K K Verma gave their specialised lectures on Characterisation of Material Using Atomic Force Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction Technique, UV Spectroscopy and IR Spectroscopy.
