ARMED with more stringent law, enacted in 2016, the Income Tax Department has swung into action in confiscating ‘Benami’ properties, movable as well as immovable. In a massive exercise all over the country, the IT Department has confiscated cash and immovable properties to the tune of Rs. 3500 crore. This should be a sure warning for those in whose name the benami properties have been purchased by moneyed people to avoid taxes and create black money.

Soon after the demonetisation of high value currency of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 the Government had made it known that in its drive against black money economy its next target would be the benami properties. The Income Tax Department seems to be acting true to the spirit of the law. The amended benami law stipulates a stringent seven-year jail term and a hefty fine of 25 pc of the fair market value of the confiscated property. Thus it is a stern warning to those who create benami properties and also to those who allow their names to be used for creating such properties. So be warned ‘Benamidars.’

BRAVO WARRIORS!

THE five air warriors of the Indian Air Force, who have successfully scaled major seven peaks across the seven continents, have made the nation proud by their achievement. However, the mission they accomplished was not without  any loss. Two of their teammates were killed during the expedition to Mt Everest in 2005.

This, however, did not deter the brave hearts from going ahead with the task and accomplishing the rare feat. The IAF too deserves a praise for conducting the expedition, thus promoting the adventure sport. Because, mountaineering has not   received the popularity it deserves. This is because there is a lack of encouragement to mountaineers from the Government and the society.

The IAF, thus, has set an example before others by undertaking the expedition. The experience gained by the  air warriors while scaling the peaks will definitely help in pumping adrenaline among the youths, who otherwise remain idle most of the time. The air warriors have set a shining example before the youths not to get deterred by the challenges in life.
