JMC comes down heavily on encroachers in different areas

IN A major exercise as many as five teams of Anti-Encroachment Department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Friday conducted drives concurrently in different areas of the city and removed several temporary as well as permanent structures. The anti-encroachment squad razed houses, boundary walls, ramps and other such permanent structures apart from removing kiosks, makeshift shops, handcarts from city streets. The squad also seized kiosks and other temporary structures and realised heavy spot fine from vendors and shopkeepers who were found creating uncleanliness. Likewise, employees of Anti-Encroachment Department also removed posters, banners and hoardings from squares and other public properties. All team incharges, senior officials of JMC and Sub-Divisional Magistrates of areas concerned were present during the drive.

Police force was deployed to conduct the drive smoothly. JMC has executed the drive to ensure proper cleanliness before arrival of inspection team in the city under Swachh Survekshan. Narendra Kushwaha, Incharge of one of the anti-encroachment teams, said as many as five teams conducted the drive in different areas of the city and removed temporary as well as permanent structures which got erected along main roads. Besides, the squad also seized commodities which were decked on footpaths and roads. He said teams conducted drive in different areas of the city including Adhartal, Gwarighat, Ranjhi, Garha, Medical College, Ranital, Katanga and centrally located areas and removed a number of temporary and permanent structures. He said people had placed kiosks along the main roads in aforementioned areas. They have also disfigured important squares and public properties by erecting and fixing posters and banners.

Hence, taking strict action against illegal act the anti-encroachment squad conducted the drive and removed illegal temporary structures. The squad also seized kiosks, handcarts and commodities which were decked outside shops. Kushwaha said illegal structures were hindering free traffic flow on main roads. He said following directions of Municipal Commissioner Vedprakash, the Anti-Encroachment Department has been conducting drives regularly. He said senior officials have been appealing people to avoid placing small shops, kiosks and handcarts in Red Zone and other prohibited areas. But shopkeepers, vendors never pay heed to request and violate law by placing shops along roads and erecting big sheds. Besides, shopkeepers also deck commodities on footpaths and road. This causes inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists. Hence, to take strict action against erring people, the anti-encroachment squad is conducting drive. On Friday, special teams of the department in presence of SDMs and senior JMC officials conducted drive in several areas and removed encroachments.
