INDIA’S vote in the United Nations against the move to shift Israel’s capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has not affected the bond of friendship between the two countries, as was evident from the warm reception Israeli Prime Minister Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu has received in Delhi. It indicates a mature relationship and growing partnership between the two countries. Though Israel is a small country, it has made a tremendous progress in defence and agriculture sectors. India can benefit immensely by seeking Israel’s help in defence and agriculture, crucial sectors for India’s development and peace. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has invited Israeli defence firms to be a part of the ‘Make in India’ drive. If all goes well, this will open new job opportunities for the youths, besides saving a lot of money that goes into foreign pockets. Israel has also shown willingness to help India in fighting terror. The visit of Mr. Netanyahu is therefore very important for the country. India will surely benefit a lot from the bond of friendship between the two Prime Ministers.

SPEED UP PROBE

THE Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would not have invited the wrath of the Supreme Court, had it shown promptness in conducting an investigation against its former boss Mr. Ranjit Sinha in coal scam case. Mr. Sinha has come under the scanner because some of the accused in the case visited his house, raising eyebrows. An investigation into this should not have taken such a long time for the country’s premier investigation agency. However, the probe has been very slow, which has naturally upset the apex court judges hearing the case. The CBI has been at the receiving end of the Supreme Court in the past also, which had dubbed it as a ‘caged parrot’. However, the CBI has hardly made any efforts to improve its image. There are several important cases that are pending before the CBI for years together. Many times, an accused continues to suffer mental agony for years even as the probe agency takes its own sweet time in giving him a clean chit. This should be avoided. It’s time the CBI speeds up probe into all the cases.
