BHILAI,

The murder of Rawalmal Jain (72), ‘Mani Trustee of Parshwa Tirth Nagpura’ and his wife Surja Devi Jain (67) was committed by their son Sandeep Jain (42) at their Ganjpara, Durg situated residence ‘Duggad Niwas, during wee hours on Monday. The motive behind the brutal murder was established as repeated threat by Rawalmal Jail to disown his son Sandeep Jain alias Mitra and also the sudden provocation after heated exchanges between the son and father on previous night as a consequence of which Rawalmal Jain slapped Surja Devi.

As per confession of the accused Sandeep Jain, he shot his mother Surja Devi Jain dead as she could become witness of heinous crime committed by him, informed Dipanshu Kaabra, Inspector General of Police, Durg Police Range addressing the media persons at Police Control Room in Bhilai on Monday evening.

Kaabra informed that during the preliminary investigation into the double murder case, the police suspected the involvement of the accused Sandeep Jain as there were no traces of forced entry at home and at the time of murder only Sandeep Jain and his parents were at home.
However, Sandeep Jain attempted to mislead police investigation but when grilled for information he confessed his involvement in brutal killing of his parents.

While citing confession of the accused Sandeep Jain, IGP, Kaabra informed that the accused had hatched the conspiracy to eliminate his father Rawalmal Jain about eight months ago and he had bought country made pistol and cartridges from his contacts in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh against payment of Rs 40,000 and he was delivered the arms and ammunition in Raipur about four months back. Sandeep Jain disclosed before the police that since childhood his father Rawalmal Jain was always pressurising him for unwarranted disciplinary measures and off late constantly threatening him to disown him from the property. Rawalmal Jain had constructed a small temple inside the residence and sending servants for fetching water from Sheonath River on daily basis for performing Pooja at home.

On Sunday night, Sandeep Jain indulged in heated argument with his father for not using the water supplied at home for the Pooja ritual and his father slapped his mother Surja Devi after she intervened in favour of her son, this had allegedly provoked Sandeep as per his confession.

While elaborating on killing and recovery of weapon and ammunition, Kaabra informed that as per confession of the accused Sandeep Jain, after the heated arguments with the father Rawalmal Jain, he had sent the security guard on leave. He was hiding in the corridor leading to toilet at home after wearing gloves and at about 5 am on Sunday when his father woke up and while going towards toilet he fired at his back twice killing him on spot and before this he had bolted the door of his mother’s room from outside.

On hearing the gunshots his mother called him on his mobile but he did not respond the call and when he heard his mother talking to someone else over the phone, he opened the door of his mother’s room and gunned her down out of fear that she could be the witness of the brutal murder. He fired three rounds killing his mother Surja Devi Jain on spot. In an attempt to manipulate the crime scene, he opened the main door and unlocked the grill gate and went to his bed.

After his nephew Sourabh reached home on getting phone call from Grandmother Surja Devi, Sandeep Jain expressed ignorance about the brutal murder at home. At about 6 am, on information, the police reached the spot immediately and initiated investigation.

The police recovered the country made pistol and live cartridges which was dumped by the accused behind their residence along with confiscating six empty cartridges from the crime scene. The recovery of one empty cartridge from the crime scene was the outcome of misfire by the accused.
