US Consulate hails rise in number of women entrepreneurs

A team of Consulate General United States of America recently expressed satisfaction over the rising number of women entrepreneurs in the region. While interacting with the office-bearers of the Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA), the visitors also praised VIA for promoting entrepreneurship among women.


The team of Consulate General United States of America - Mumbai comprising Jennifer Larson, Deputy Principal Officer; Heidi Hattenbach, Information Officer / Spokesperson and Kristen Svarczkopf, Control Officer, were in the city to interacted with the office bearers of the association and members of Lady Entrepreneurs Wing VIA.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and women’s empowerment was the main theme of the discussion. Showing keen interest in encouraging women, Jennifer Larson discussed various issues with the VIA membersTopics such as obstacles affecting the growth of the women entrepreneurs, ability to women to strike balance between work and home were discussed at length. Jennifer Larson was pleased to know about the encouraging activities of ladies wing of VIA and women’s contribution in businesses. Investment opportunities for business women were also discussed.


Atul Pande, President-VIA, briefed the visitors about 14 forums of VIA and its activities. “VIA sends recommendations to policy makers on economic development and various other issues,” he highlighted.


Oande spoke at length on the policy launched by Government of Maharashtra specially for women entrepreneurs. “Maharashtra is the first State in the coutry to declare such a policy that would really help women entrepreneurs to boost their own ventures,” he said. Prafullata Rode, Advisor and past Chairperson of LEW, highlighted the purpose, functioning and activities taken up by the Lady Entrepreneurs Wing (LEW).

“The wing was formed to help and grow the budding and existing entrepreneurs. LEW is also boosting women to do economic activities,” she said. While throwing light on the journey of the wing, she explained how the wing helps to identify products, create awareness about Government schemes. Concept of “Uudyojika” exhibition initiated to help marketing the products of women entrepreneurs was also explained..
Shachi Mallick, Chairperson of LEW, and Shilpa Agrawal, Chairperson of Marketing Forum of VIA also expressed their views on women’s issues.


CSR Chairman, Girdhari Mantri skope about VIA’s contribution in Jalyukt Shivar Schem. Shilpa Agrawal talked about the changing social scenario promoting business women. Hemant Lodha, former Chairman of CSR Forum and Chairman – HRD Forum, elaborate on various issues related to implementation of CSR activities in the region. Dr Suhas Buddhe, Secretary - VIA said the association has formed Food Processing Cell and Vidarbha is also producing good quality of rice, dal, turmeric, chilly, oranges, etc. “We have been organising programmes and guiding local farmers to improve their productivity and quality.

We are also promoting ‘Made in Vidarbha’ and requesting farmers to use this brand in their produces. In Defense Sector, Government of India has come up with Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) which is a good for industries,” he added.
Prominently present on the occasion were Praful Doshi, IPP – VIA, Y Ramani, Vandana Sharma, Gaurav Sarda, Neelam Bowade and Dr Vijay Phate.
