NMC lodges FIR against erring staffers of city bus service

Transport Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has suspended 35 conductors for alleged misappropriation of Rs 12 lakh in Cash Card scam. A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against the guilty persons at Sadar Police Station.

Meanwhile, Bunty Kukde, Chairman of Transport Committee in a letter to Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal has urged to conduct in-depth probe into this shocking incident. It may be mentioned that Transport Committee has issued Cash Card to the regular commuters. The commuters were required to scratch these cards while travelling and conductors used to provide them with a ticket after swapping card on the ticket vending machine. The ticket was expected to mention the balance amount of the cash card.

However, during surprise visit, the vigilance team of Transport Committee found a ticket, swiped from the ticket vending machine, without any mention about balance amount. They smelled foul play and after detailed inquiry, they found a bigger scam in the system.

Bunty Kukde directed Transport Department to lodge police complaint at concern police station. The total scam is to the tune of Rs 12 lakh in which role of 35 conductors is under scanner. They brought 63 cash card of their relatives and swiped them in the machine. It is very difficult for the Vigilance team to keep tab on 1.50 lakh tickets issued by the conductors every day.

They recharged the machines through dummy machine to commit fraud. This was started in June and recently, it was noticed by the Vigilance team. The Transport Committee has also issued recovery notice to Unity Security Force for this fraud in the city bus transport.
Kukde alleged that fraud amount may touch even Rs 30 lakh. This scam just can not happen without insider help of the DIMS company, he added.
