Staff Reporter,

Adding a fresh controversy to Smt Pramila Gokuldas Daga Girls College run by Rashtriya Vidyalaya Samiti, a number of teaching staff of the college accused the management of harassing them for raising voice against illegal activities. Three women staff of the college Dr Shikha Mitra, Dr Neha Diwan and Dr Madhulikha Choubey led by Professor D K Dubey, who is said to be the In-charge Principal of the college, on Tuesday, alleged that Samiti Chairman Ajay Tiwari and Secretary Naresh Chandra Gupta are allegedly using their political connection to suppress their voice. Some of officials in the higher education department too are sheltering the management’s act.

In fact, the controversy started with the appointment of Dr Gayatri Sharma as Assistant Professor in the college on July 11, 2015 and subsequently an objection filed by other candidates in Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) challenging the appointment.

One of the candidates Dr Rajiv Mukherjee alleged that Dr Sharma was appointed in the Philosophy Department against UGC norms. As per UGC, a candidate with at least 50 per cent marks in the graduation level is only eligible for such post. “Dr Sharma, who learnt to have secured 48 per cent marks in graduation, was selected for the job, sidelining the eligible candidates,” said Professor Dubey while speaking to media at Raipur Press Club on Tuesday.

Earlier, PRSU cancelled its decision taken on September 20, 2003 regarding the appointment of Dr Sharma as Reader in the university following an order from the Raj Bhawan in response to a complaint by Dr Nand Kumar Rathore, who was also rejected by the college management, said Professor Dubey. Recently, a social worker Abhishek Jain had submitted an application to the University challenging the appointment of Dr Gayatri Sharma and in turn the university had asked the college to submit its report after an inquiry. A committee headed by Dr Madhulikha Choubey conducted an inquiry and submitted the report to the university recommending action against Dr Sharma. Prof Dubey said that even after three months of submission of report no action was taken.

Professor Dubey said that the Samiti president Ajay Tiwari held a meeting on November 29, 2017 against the rules without his knowledge and decided to give the charge of the principal to Dr Sangeeta Ghai. To a query, Professor Dubey said that he is still the In-charge principal of the college. When asked, Samiti Chairman Ajay Tiwari said that the allegations leveled by Professor Dubey against the management are baseless. Dr Gayatri Sharma’s appointment has been done as per the rules and she is adequately qualified for the post.

Professor Dubey did not call meeting despite repeated intimation and therefore the management decided to handover the charge of Principal to Dr Ghai. Tiwari even went to say that Professor Dubey is MCom and is in teaching since 2000 while Dr Ghai is more deserving as she is in the profession since 1992. PRSU Vice Chancellor Professor S K Pandey said that the matter is strictly related to the college. “Whatever decision will be taken by the college management, university will give it a go ahead,” said the Vice Chancellor. When asked about Dr Gayatri Sharma’s sacking from the university, the Vice Chancellor said that both situation cannot be compared. She had joined as a reader during that time but now she is assistant professor.
