Sales Tax employee caught taking bribe

A team of Lokayukta Police special establishment, Jabalpur caught an employee of Sales Tax Office while taking bribe of Rs 2,000 for opening file of Sales Tax case of a company, on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Shrivastava, posted as Assistant Grade-II in Sales Tax Department.


The officers of Lokayukta police nabbed the accused Pradeep Kumar Shrivastava, when he was taking bribe of Rs 2,000 from complainant named Suresh Gupta, representative of Associated Electrical Agency, Mumbai.
According to Lokayukta police, Superintendent of Police, they received a complaint from Suresh Gupta that he is representative of Associated Electrical Agency, Mumbai. The company made an appeal against sales tax assessment against his company.


The authorities made decision in favour of his company in Bhopal and its file reached Sales Tax Office in Jabalpur. He contacted the Sales Tax office where an employee named Pradeep Kumar Shrivastava demanded bribe of Rs 3,000 and the deal was settled with payment of Rs 2,000.Acting on the complaint, a team of Lokayukta police fielded the appellant for collecting evidences. Once the information was confirmed, Lokayukta police team reached at Sales Tax office and trapped the officer of Government department red-handed when he was taking the cash of Rs 2,000 from the appellant. Lokayukta police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, while further investigations are underway.


During the trap, Lokayukta police team comprised DSP, Dilip Jharwade, Inspector, Oscar Kindo, Inspector, Kamal Singh Uikay, Constable Jeet Singh, Constable Govind Singh and Pankaj Tiwari.
