Couple involved in cheating of over Rs 1.25 crore arrested

A PROPERTY broker and his wife were arrested for cheating, involving over Rs 1.25 crore in Amleshwar, Durg. Since, the report of offence and fact
finding investigation, the
accused couple was constantly hoodwinking the police by remaining away and returning home in late evening.
The police team led by Richa Mishra, Probationer Dy SP and Station House Officer, Amleshwar Police Station, ultimately succeeded in laying hands on accused after confirming his presence stealthily and raiding the house during midnight hours on Tuesday.

Police sources informed that the accused couple was identified as Ramanand Patel (50) and Madhuri Patel, residents of village Jheet of Amleshwar, Durg. While citing facts, established in the course of investigation, police said that in the complaints recorded so far of cheating, the six victims including Sonu Samdariya, Manoj Kumar Wadhher, Sudhakar Tiwari, Prashant Jasani, Lal Bahadur Goutam and Jivanlal Sahu alleged the accused of cheating and the criminal charges were ascertained against them. The police arrested the accused and produced them in the court in connection with their involvement in cheating. The police registered the offence against the accused under sections 420, 506 and 34 of Indian Penal Code for indulging in the criminal acts of cheating, threatening the person with life and conspiracy of crime.

Police sources further informed that the accused property broker Ramanand Patel and his wife Madhuri Patel owned three agriculture lands in the village and also a house, and they indulged in the criminal act of cheating by signing several sale deeds for the same properties and procured crores of rupees out of the fake deals. The police also said that they have established the cheating charges after obtaining the sale deeds documents, confirming repeatedly for similar properties and thorough investigation in
the matter.

While elaborating on modus operandi of accused couple, Richa Mishra, Dy SP (Probationer) and SHO, Amleshwar Police Station informed that the accused couple used to take loan from several people while signing agreement for the same properties, and after learning about cheating whenever the victims turned up for refund of amount, the accused couple used to threaten them to entangle them into criminal cases of eve-teasing and rape. However, some of the victims were also issued the cheques against the due payment, but all cheques were dishonoured.
She also informed that the accused Ramanand Patel was also a medical practitioner and since the accused couple was hoodwinking police for week time by remaining away and returning home during late hours, the police managed to confirm his presence at home by sending a person on pretext of some ailments and nabbed the accused by carrying out raid subsequently— after climbing the wall and jumping into curt yard of his house.
