‘Itwari rly stn to get several new facilities’

The upgradation of Nagpur-Nagbhid route will be taken-up only after land acquisition process for proposed Broad Gauge is completed. Stating this General Manager, South East Central Railway (SECR), Bilaspur, Sunil Singh Soin, on Wednesday stated that this is in line with new guidelines of Railway Board. As project gets stalled owing to lack of required land, the stress is now on having in place all resources first as finance is no longer a problem with Railways. The 110 km section is the only remaining with Narrow Gauge that has hampered development of the region alongside the rail corridor.


Soin who was on annual inspection tour of Gondia-Itwari segment while talking with newspersons also stated that Itwari railway station would gets several new facilities, including a Coaching Depot, as passenger train traffic is set to increase. The new corridors, Chhindwara-Nagpur and Jabalpur-Balaghat is set to be completed very soon which would lead to jump in number of train services through Itwari which would gain importance.


Earlier, General Manager accompanied by senior zonal officers conducted inspection of tracks and various passenger amenities on Gondia-Itwari route. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Amit Kumar Agrawal along with Branch Heads briefed General Manager about the initiatives taken by division during the year and also discussed future plans for division. The visiting Headquarters team checked the curve and small bridge and also visited employees colony, the health unit and Railway Protection Force (RPF) post along the corridor. The team also inspected Bhandara Railway station and a unmanned level crossing.


General Manager took a long tour of Itwari railway station which is focus of development of Bilaspur Zone and its Nagpur Division.


Several initiatives regarding passenger amenities were discussed and plans finalised which are to be executed in coming year. A coffee table book prepared by division was also released on the occasion. General Manager announced a reward of Rs one lakh to Nagpur Division appreciating the maintenance of tracks, colonies and passenger amenities.
