Staff Reporter,

Congress has strongly protested Government decision to increase rates of petrol and diesel by 50 paisa in order to collect money to improve road infrastructure on Wednesday. Former Congress MLA and District President P C Sharma and Corporator Guddu Chouhan led the demonstration held at six number market of Shivaji Nagar area. Congress workers put scooter on hand cart puller to register their protest.

They raised slogans against government by telling that already petrol and diesel rates were high in Madhya Pradesh in comparison to other parts of the country and once again, Government decided to increase rates of fuel. They said that the hike in fuel prices will increase the inflation and common people will be at receiving end. Later, talking to ‘The Hitavada’ P C Sharma said that Government’s decision to hike fuel price by 50 paisa is illogical and against the interests of people. Slamming the Government decision, he demanded that rates of petrol and diesel should be rolled back. He also demanded that petrol and diesel should be brought in the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

He added that already, fuel rates in Madhya Pradesh are higher than any other part of the country. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh had spoken to mediapersons over the issue and slammed Government decision to increase 50 paisa on petrol and diesel. He said Government should not unnecessarily put burden on people. He alleged that if Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan curtails his expenditure on his branding, sojourns and programmes then there will be no need to impose Cess on petrol and diesel. He alleged that CM had cheated the people. Before Gujarat elections, VAT was reduced on petrol and diesel and now Cess has been applied on fuel.
