Staff Reporter,

Raising the issues of property hike in tax rates and poor working of Orange City Water (OCW) in the city, Nagpur City (District) Congress Committee staged a demonstration at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Civil Lines office on Thursday.

The demonstration was led by Congress city President Vikas Thakre. The delegation also met Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal and submitted him a memorandum of their demands after the rally.

Cybertech Systems and Software Ltd, a private firm, was entrusted with the job of creating a comprehensive computerised geo-enabled property database to support assessment and consolidation of all revenues for NMC.
The property owners were left baffled when they received demand notices with tax projected to ten times to 20 times. The firm was blacklisted by Amravati Municipal Corporation for its shabby state of affairs. Hence, Congress Party have demanded cancellation of contract of the firm and revaluation of properties in NMC limits.

Congress also blamed that the company recruited untrained employees for this activity and they are not properly inspecting the properties before mapping them. They also pointed that no one is taking care of public complaints regarding the property tax hike and instead of this they are pressurising the people to pay the revised tax.

Similarly, NMC promised citizens to provide 24x7 water supply and OCW got contract to implement the plan in Nagpur. Instead of 24x7 water supply, people of Nagpur are facing water cut problems in the name of maintenance from the very first day.
