CM honours Collector for excellent work in Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan

State Government has honoured Sachin Kurve, District Collector, for doing excellent work in implementation of Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan in the year 2015-16. The Government declared State-level Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jalmitra Puraskar to Kurve for the best job in Nagpur Division.

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, presented the State-level Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jalmitra Puraskar to Prakash Patil, Additional Collector, Nagpur, in a glittering function held in Mumbai. Patil accepted the award on behalf of Sachin Kurve. Prof Ram Shinde, Water Conservation Minister; Pandurang Phundkar, Agriculture Minister; Vijay Shivtare, Minister of State; Sumit Mullick, Chief Secretary; Eknath Dawle, Secretary of Water and Soil Conservation Department, also shared the dais on the occasion.

In Nagpur district, in 2015-16, a total of 313 villages became water-sufficient under Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan. Under the initiative, total 55,250 works have been completed. Water Conservation Department, Zilla Parishad, Rural Water Supply Department, Agriculture Department, Water Resources Department, Gram Panchayats, Forest Department etc did a splendid job. Despite less than 80 per cent rainfall received this year, the groundwater level in the district has increased up to 1.5 metres.

Due to works done under Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan, farmers opted for second crop in 2016-17 as protective irrigation was available. Works of more than 350 farm ponds have been completed. Chief Minister’s Office and Prime Minister’s Office took cognisance of the excellent work done in Nagpur district, and appreciated it. Kurve said that increase in groundwater level had provided protective irrigation to farmers.
