The students from over 150 schools participated in Yogasan contest organised to mark 125th birth anniversary of Janardan Swami


Over 25,000 students from 150 schools participated in Yogasan contest, organised to mark 125th birth anniversary of founder of Yogabhyasi Mandal, Janardan Swami, at Yashvant Stadium, here on Saturday. The contest was held in memory of Bhanutai Gadkari, mother of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.


Bhanutai Gadkari was student of Janardan Swami and later worked as Yoga teacher. Kanchan Gadkari, Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Sudhakar Kohale, MLA Krishna Khopde, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, Rupa Rai, V-C of SNDT University Dr Shashi Wanjari, corporators Sunil Bitanwar and Sanjay Bangale were the guests of honour. The programme was organised with the association of Education Department of Maharashtra Government.


The group yogasanas began after paying floral tributes at the portrait of Bhanutai Gadkari. Yogabhyasi Mandal and the school teachers made preparations for the programme during the last two months. The winners were decided based on earlier two examination and the final examination on Saturday. The three schools selected are - Modern NEERI School, Shreyas Madhyamik Shala, Wardhaman Nagar and Bharti Krushi Vidyalaya.


The students performed in a disciplined manner. They were brought to the venue by their teachers and helped to stand at the fixed place.
The discipline followed and the smooth performance of the yogasanas attracted attention of those present.


The prizes based on group performance, synchronisation, silence and number of participants were also distributed. Nitin Gadkari extended best wishes to the students on phone from Singapore. Kanchan Gadkari stated that late Bhanutai was suffering from Asthma, which was cured through yoga, taught by Janardan Swami. Jichkar said that Yoga is a formula to lead happy life and should be practiced by the students regularly.

Bawankule said that the health of the students are being strengthened through Yoga. Next year efforts will be made to ensure participation of 50,000 students. He also appreciated the discipline and systematic performance of the students. Secretary of Yogabhyasi Mandal Ram Khandwe proposed a vote of thanks.
